Just a two-hour drive from Muscat, the capital, this is a sumptuous hotel in a spectacular setting at an altitude of 2,000 metres. Here, well-being is a blend of great Arab traditions and a modern approach to wellness. On the menu: outdoor yoga classes, hammam and contemplation.
Overlooking a vertiginous canyon, the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort is the highest-lying 5-star resort in the Middle East, guaranteeing pleasant temperatures in an often sweltering region.
A haven of peace for intrepid travelers, it boasts 115 luxury rooms and villas as well as a fabulous cliffside infinity pool. The spectacular views are one of the resort’s major assets.
Beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms
Suites feature private pools, spa baths and rain showers. Each room features interactive smart TV, spacious walk-in closets, refined decor with wooden desks, sofas and even a Nespresso coffee machine. Special mention for the king-size bed with eight pillows! Terraces with sofas allow you to contemplate the spectacle and try to catch a glimpse of the goats that wander around the resort.
Without doubt the most spectacular part of every bedroom is the bathroom! A large sliding wooden door opens onto a huge marble room, with a double washbasin and a vast bathtub. It’s both contemporary and traditional.
A beautifully decorated spa
Welcome to the land of a thousand and one nights… Once you’ve entered the Anantara spa, you’ll feel as if you’ve rubbed Aladdin’s lamp and found yourself in a fairytale… This is hardly an exaggeration, as the tangle of pools and fountains is so successful, and the scent of incense and rosewater so enchanting.
The spa features five treatment and massage cabins, including two double cabins for couples, a large Jacuzzi heated to 37°C, a heated indoor pool with hydro-massage jets, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a splendid marble steam room.
There’s also a relaxation room with tea, dates and almonds… The Anantara’s massages have an excellent reputation, not to mention the fact that the group’s head office is in Thailand.
Gastronomy & dream atmosphere
Every evening at 5pm, a fire is lit in the hotel’s central courtyard, to the sound of Arabic drumming. Great atmosphere guaranteed. There’s also an open-air cinema where you can enjoy a pleasant moment under the stars. For astronomy enthusiasts, there’s a stargazing platform with a telescope.
The Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort boasts no fewer than 6 restaurants. Al Qalaa serves gourmet Arabian cuisine based on grilled meats. At Bella Vista, you can enjoy Roman-inspired cuisine while admiring a view of the Grand Canyon. Open all day, Al Maisan serves international cuisine.
The Al Baha café and delicatessen is in the courtyard. The Diana’s Point platform is the ideal setting for a private dining experience overlooking the canyons. If you’re looking to propose, this is the place to do it!
There are many activities available in and around the hotel. A special mention goes to the only via ferrata in the world to be set up inside a hotel, with the option of abseiling down… and coming back up for breakfast as if nothing had happened. For the less intrepid, there are painting classes and cooking workshops.
Of course, these spectacular landscapes are perfect for hiking and mountain biking, as well as donkey tours of the Jabal Al Akhdar mountains and the surrounding traditional villages.
