An exceptional promontory overlooking the ocean

A member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection, Cape Weligama embodies the refinement and authenticity of an exceptional stay. The hotel stretches out on a wild cape in the south of Sri Lanka, where cliffs plunge into an infinite sea. Nature reigns supreme here, with slender palm trees and lush gardens, while the villas and suites elegantly hug the horizon. The architecture is inspired by traditional Sinhalese villages: pavilions with red-tiled roofs blend harmoniously with the tropical vegetation.

Reaching Cape Weligama is an experience in itself. From Colombo, you can choose between a 30-minute flight offering breathtaking views of the coast or a two-hour overland journey. The advantage of the latter option is the opportunity to observe the verdant landscapes of the south of the island. For the ultimate in comfort, private transfers in air-conditioned vehicles can be arranged.

Beyond luxury, it’s the environment that makes this place so special. The hotel overlooks a wave-sculpted coastline, where golden beaches invite relaxation and translucent waters invite exploration. Just a stone’s throw away, the fishing villages of Weligama and Ahangama reveal a vibrant culture, with colorful markets and traditional boats bobbing on the horizon. The view from the estate is one of immensity. At dawn, the light caresses the waves, and at nightfall, only the murmur of the ocean accompanies dreamers. Between nature, refinement and the gentle way of life, Cape Weligama will delight any traveler!

Relais & Chateaux, luxury in the spirit of a Sri Lankan village

Accommodation at Cape Weligama is inspired by the authentic charm of Sri Lanka, while offering the utmost in comfort. Arranged in the style of a traditional village, villas and suites nestle in lush gardens, shaded by palm trees. Their terracotta-tiled roofs recall the Sinhalese houses of yesteryear, while the interior reveals a peaceful atmosphere, tinged with maritime and colonial influences. Noble woods, natural textiles and soft hues combine to create a harmonious decor.

Three categories of suite are available, all of them spacious:

  • Junior Suite (130 m²);
  • Master Suite (150 m²) ;
  • Two-Bedroom Family Suite (280 m²).

The villas, meanwhile, come in six categories, each with its own unique ambience. From the elegant and spacious Luxury Villa to the Grand Villa, the Premier and Prestige Villas offer exceptional ocean views. The Pool Pavilion, with its private pool, and the Cape Residence, an exclusive sanctuary, promise an even more intimate and prestigious experience.

Swimming pools, gardens and gazebos

It’s hard to talk about Cape Weligama without mentioning its spectacular pools. The most emblematic, in the shape of a crescent moon, seems to hang over the ocean… A breathtaking sight every time you take a dip. Further down, the Cove pool welcomes families in a peaceful, friendly atmosphere, while private and semi-private pools are hidden throughout the estate, promising moments of absolute intimacy.

Perched atop the cliffs, the estate’s lookouts are the perfect refuge from the raw beauty of the Sri Lankan coastline. At dawn or dusk, they offer a timeless interlude of contemplation and wonder. The lush gardens are an invitation to stroll, with exotic flowers, intoxicating scents and shady corners to indulge in daydreaming.
