In the heart of the Maldives’ crystal-clear seas
Joali is located on the island of Muravandhoo, in the north of the Maldives atoll, surrounded by waters that are home to reef sharks (we assure you, they’re harmless) and many other marine species. The resort has invested heavily in protecting this ecosystem, and over a thousand trees were spared during construction, we learn.
To reach the resort, you must either take a private charter or share a seaplane with other guests… The seaplane takes you from Muravandhoo to Malé airport in 40 minutes. Not bad.
An arty hotel, decorated with great care
The Joali resort comprises 73 villas, many of which are set directly on the water. Villas range in size from 1 to 4 bedrooms, spread throughout the site. Each has its own private infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Rooms also feature a library and bicycles for exploring the atoll. So far, so classic in the Maldives. What really sets the hotel apart from the competition is its arty feel, the detail of the decor, the bathrooms and the sense of total luxury… It’s a far cry from the barefoot luxury of Soneva and Six Senses.
Odd-numbered rooms are the ideal place to watch the sunrise. Even-numbered rooms offer the best sunset views. The entire room system is controlled via iPad.
This includes synchronized opening of the curtains so you can admire the ocean as you wake up. Beach residences, on the other hand, represent a more accessible and safer option for those traveling with the family.
Restaurants to suit all tastes
Joali has plenty to satisfy your appetite, with four restaurants and a wide selection of healthy dishes. Guests with special dietary requirements can inform the resort’s management in advance.
Lovers of non-alcoholic cocktails and dietary snacks will be delighted at the Mura bar. For breakfast and dinner, visit the Vandhoo restaurant behind the pool.
The Bellinis Italian restaurant also offers classic à la carte cuisine, with vegetables grown in a kitchen garden.
Tailor-made wellness… almost beyond measure!
Joali customers are offered tailor-made wellness experiences. These focus on relaxing and rejuvenating treatments and wellness programs. Each stay includes two fitness sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The complex also offers a tempting program of activities. This includes parasailing, night dives to discover marine life, and swimming with dolphins. With the tranquility of the Indian Ocean as your private playground, it’s hard not to let yourself go. The surrounding seas also provide a welcoming backdrop for novice divers. They can also obtain their PADI qualifications from the resort.
The Joali Spa boasts a splendid marble hammam. Exclusive Espa therapies can be delivered by a therapist according to your wellness needs. Treatments include sound healing, chakra work and the use of healing crystals. The atmosphere and design of the stilt rooms and yoga pavilion enhance the overall sense of well-being…
