During his latest stay in London, Pascal Languillon, CEO of Luxe Wellness Club, had the opportunity to discover the brand-new Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, an establishment that promises to redefine luxury standards in the British capital. Located in the heart of Mayfair, on the prestigious Hanover Square, this hotel of just 50 rooms combines contemporary elegance with Asian heritage. The icing on the cake: its magnificent spa boasts a 25-metre-long swimming pool, one of the finest in London.
As soon as I arrived at the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, I was struck by the hotel’s understated elegance. The contemporary façade, designed by the renowned firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, blends seamlessly with the classic architecture of the district. Inside, the design by Studio Indigo skilfully blends modernity and Asian inspiration, creating a warm, refined ambience.
The Mandarin Oriental Mayfair boasts a strategic location, particularly appreciated during a stay in London. Situated on prestigious Hanover Square, it’s just a stone’s throw from Bond Street‘s luxury boutiques, renowned art galleries and Mayfair’s many popular restaurants. Hyde Park is a 15-minute walk away (I ran there for my morning running session…).
Despite the hustle and bustle of the area, the hotel manages to offer a calm and relaxing setting, a rare quality for such a central establishment. This balance between city life and tranquility makes it an ideal base for discovering London, whether for cultural activities, shopping or simply enjoying the city’s vibrant atmosphere.
A Deluxe Suite where elegance meets comfort
During my stay, I had the pleasure of staying in a Deluxe Suite, a 55m² space with all the contemporary elegance characteristic of Mandarin Oriental. As soon as I walked through the door, I was seduced by the serene atmosphere. The sober yet refined decor is based on a palette of natural tones: soft shades of beige and cream, punctuated by touches of emerald green…
The spacious, well-appointed suite offers a true cocoon in the heart of the city. The living room, bathed in light thanks to large windows, is furnished with plush sofas and subtle decorative details, such as modern works of art and Asian-inspired objects. The only minor disappointment with the bedroom is that it doesn’t really have a view.
The master bedroom is a true ode to rest, with a king-size bed featuring high-quality bedding, perfect for guaranteeing a restful night’s sleep. The bathroom, all in light marble, is functional and equipped with a deep bathtub and rain shower. The toiletries supplied, from top-of-the-range brand Natura Bissé, add an extra touch of discreet luxury.
A wellness experience in the heart of Mayfair
The Mandarin Oriental Mayfair spa is in line with the establishment’s philosophy of offering an elegant and refined escape in the heart of the city. It offers a true moment of rejuvenation, combining oriental know-how and modern techniques. As soon as I arrived, I appreciated the hushed atmosphere of the place, with its neutral tones, natural materials and carefully designed lighting, inviting calm and serenity.
Located in the hotel’s basement, the spa extends over a generous space, designed to meet the needs of even the most demanding guests. The main area features a 25-meter pool with carefully designed lighting, lined with comfortable loungers. Facilities also include a sauna and hammam, perfect for releasing tension after a busy day.
I opted for the “Natural Time For You” massage, which, as the name suggests, is entirely tailored to the client’s needs. Before the treatment, the therapist asked me a few questions to better understand my expectations and target the areas to be worked on. This initial attention resulted in a massage that was both effective and relaxing, performed with precise gestures and high-quality products. The oils used were from an Italian brand, Seed to Skin. They were pleasantly scented, and the techniques used proved to be perfectly mastered. In conclusion: a great massage!
The spa is not limited to body treatments. It offers a full range of holistic services, from nutritional consultations to yoga and meditation classes. For fans of innovative technologies, we can mention the binaural and dynamic acoustic stimulation treatment on the Welnamis bed. These services are offered in an intimate and professional setting, with a constant concern for adapting to individual needs.
The spa at the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is a place where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of London and rediscover a little calm. An address to keep in mind for wellness enthusiasts seeking a subtle balance between modernity and tradition.
Among the products on sale are Swiss Perfection products and Clinique La Prairie dietary supplements.
Modern food with an asian touch
The Akira Back restaurant, located within the hotel, is one of the highlights. This is Michelin-starred chef Akira Back’s first London establishment, and his culinary approach never fails to surprise. The menu blends Japanese and Korean flavors with a contemporary touch, offering an original taste experience.
Some dishes particularly stood out for me, such as the “Tuna Pizza”, a surprisingly successful combination of tuna sashimi on a thin, crispy crust, or the perfectly executed “Miso Black Cod”. All served in an elegant yet relaxed setting, where the lively atmosphere remains pleasant without becoming overpowering. You eat well, you feel well, and it’s probably one of Mayfair’s best gastronomic choices for lovers of contemporary Asian cuisine.
I also loved the à la carte breakfast. No buffet here. A delicious fruit salad, toast with avocado and poached eggs, delicious salmon, perfectly executed cappucino… Everything I love.
For lunch, I ate at ABar Rooftop, which offers simpler, brasserie-style dishes, with a beautiful view of London’s rooftops. Pleasure guaranteed!
Our feeling
The Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is a success: impeccable service without being intrusive, and a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. The spa is a little gem, with one of the most beautiful pools in London. An address that deserves its place among the best in the English capital, while embracing a more modern vision of luxury.
