When Virginie and I decided to escape for a weekend to take a break and disconnect, our natural choice was the Arantza Hotela, a little jewel hidden in the verdant landscape of the Spanish Basque Country. Located just an hour from Biarritz and San Sebastian, this hotel seems light years away from the hustle and bustle of the city!
The road to get there is as beautiful as it is winding. We arrived in the afternoon, greeted by the modern, elegant façade of the Arantza Hotela. At first glance, the hotel stands out for its contemporary architecture, blending harmoniously with the surrounding nature. The staff’s warm welcome immediately dispelled the relative fatigue of the trip. A short briefing on arrival made it clear that nothing had been left to chance in the choice and design of this highly soothing setting.
The hotel is just a ten-minute drive from the picturesque village of Arantza, which is the starting point for numerous hikes. We took a short walk to a large waterfall, soaking up the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings. Here and there, sheep, goats… and the green grass of this often rainy region, so beautiful in the sunshine!
Rooms designed as love nests
Our room, located at the very top of the hotel on the third floor, was called KUTTUNA (which means “darling” in Basque). It’s a spacious 79m² junior suite with a breathtaking view of the green hills. The decor, both modern and warm, creates an intimate and comfortable atmosphere. The large bay window allows you to contemplate nature and the sheep below.
All rooms feature gigantic Hästens beds! Did you know that these Swedish-made beds cost 50,000 euros each? Each bed is handcrafted by skilled artisans, guaranteeing meticulous attention to detail and superior quality. they meet the expectations of many customers looking for a luxury sleep experience, and are considered to be the best beds in the world .
Hästens uses natural, top-quality materials in the manufacture of its beds, such as horsehair, wool, cotton and linen. These materials are not only durable, but also offer excellent ventilation, regulating temperature and humidity for a more comfortable sleep. I can attest to having spent an excellent night in such a comfortable bed!
The romantic side of the rooms is total: a stove in the bedroom to make the fire crackle, a huge 500 L round bathtub that allows two to take a bath facing the view…. If all this means that you’d rather be looking at your cell phone, you’ve got it all wrong!
With a set-up like this, it’s hardly surprising that most guests don’t leave their rooms very often! In fact, most dinners and breakfasts are taken in the rooms.
Of course, we also took advantage of the hotel’s spa. Between the sauna, the jet pool and the salt grotto, there’s plenty of time for relaxation. The special thing about the spa here is that it’s private for each couple!
For drinks, choose from champagne or detox smoothies. In keeping with our reputation, we’ve opted for healthy drinks!
Wine tasting is another very pleasant experience. Joanes the host is adorable, and the wines tasted were delicious. To discover an excellent Champagne in Spain, you have to do it!
For meals, several menus are available, as well as a wide à la carte selection featuring local and typical Spanish products. For our delicious dinner we opted for a light formula with asparagus a la plancha, artichokes parmesan and egg yolk, wild salmon…
Breakfast in your room was both copious and tasty, and the quality of the products was top-notch! Tortilla de patatas, exceptional Serrano ham, fresh fruit, delicious orange juice, and crunchy pastries to match…
Our feeling
Arantza Hotela is a sanctuary of tranquility, a 5-star hotel exclusively for adults, where time flows differently in harmony with your rhythm and that of nature. The icing on the cake is that the hotel is eco-friendly and eco-labeled. A highly recommended address for a romantic getaway.
