One of the most beautiful hotels in Mexico
Around 20 kilometers north of Playa del Carmen, on the Riviera Maya coast, the Chablé Maroma offers a remarkable experience: a meeting between lush tropical natureand pristine white-sand beaches. The resort’s 70 villas are nestled in the heart of verdant jungle.
Over the past ten years, Chablé Maroma has established itself as one of the leading hotels in Playa del Carmen, and more generally in Mexico. The award-winning hotel has everything you could wish for: a private beach with turquoise waters, luxurious rooms all with private pools, and excellent service.
When I arrived, I made the same observation as most guests: In front of you, the green and blue ocean, behind you, the dense jungle, to the right and left, nothing but a long white sandy beach dotted with palm trees! In short, happiness. Chablé Maroma also boasts a sumptuous spa offering treatments that pay tribute to local Mayan culture.
Chablé’s rooms are officially called “villas”. Each villa features a private pool and well-appointed outdoor living space. We fell in love with this villa surrounded by vegetation, with a vast bathroom featuring superb indoor and outdoor showers. WOW effect guaranteed! The bed was very comfortable, with a soft comforter that I appreciated, even in the tropics, because here you can’t sleep without air conditioning…
The one- and three-bedroom villas all feature whitewashed walls, thatched roofs and tropical wood floors and ceilings. The boundaries between indoors and outdoors become blurred: by opening the sliding wooden doors, the terrace with hammock and relaxation pool blends seamlessly into the living space.
Don’t expect to see or hear your neighbors, unless you pass them on your way to the restaurants and communal pools, which are just a few minutes’ walk from each villa…
I spent my days relaxing in the sun by the splendid pool or taking refuge in the shade of the palm trees lining the beach.
The establishment offers various forms of yoga, from Vinyasa to Ashtanga, including a 7am class on the beach to get the day off to a good start. I loved it! Chablé Maroma also offers a host of wellness-oriented activities and treatments at the resort’s spa, including purification ceremonies inspired by Mayan traditions and a full range of 60- and 90-minute massages.
Here, the cuisine is adapted to the Riviera Maya: Mexico City’s renowned chef Jorge Vallejo works with seafood , serving clams, ceviche and other Yucatán-influenced flavors.
Breakfast is a real treat : homemade pastries, vegan berry pancakes, huevos rancheros and chilaquiles served until 11am.
At the main restaurant, Bu’ul, the tasting menu can seem a little intimidating. I opted for à la carte dishes, each one better than the last.
Our verdict
Chablé Maroma is a superb luxury hotel which, in addition to its idyllic setting, offers sumptuous rooms and one of the most elegant swimming pools in Mexico. Add to that yoga classes on the beach and an authentic touch of Mayan spirituality at the spa!
