Palazzo Avino is one of the most beautiful hotels on the Amalfi Coast, and is even considered by Travel & Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler magazines to be one of the best hotels in the world. Located in Ravello, it offers breathtaking views of the coast, sumptuous gardens, a rooftop with a Jacuzzi, a beach club and a Michelin-starred restaurant. Pascal Languillon, CEO of Luxe Wellness Club, tested it for you during a short family stay. Naturally, he fell in love with this exceptional location and hotel. which also boasts a pretty little spa.
After our stay in Borgo Egnazia, a 3-hour drive away, we continued our tour of Italy by discovering Palazzo Avino and the magnificent Amalfi Coast, perhaps the most beautiful coast in the world?
Housed in a large villa dating back to the 12th century, the Palazzo Avino is located in the old aristocratic quarter of Ravello, in our opinion, the most beautiful village on the Amalfi coast, along with Positano. It’s away from the tourist crowds, but just a short distance from Piazza del Duomo. The Palace’s facades are pink, a beautiful pink that’s a little weathered and gives the hotel so much character. There’s something inimitable here, an Italian charm that can’t be defined…
The hotel’s first undeniable asset is its fantastic view – a view like no other! As soon as you enter the hotel, your eyes are immediately drawn to the sea at the end of the garden… and the panorama is breathtaking.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get that feeling as soon as we arrived, as it was raining that day. The clouds lifted the next morning, so we were able to take in the dreamy view from our bedroom window as soon as we woke up.
A member of The Leading Hotels of The World, the hotel is very chic. It perfectly embodies Italian luxury in its purest tradition. Rooms feature handmade Vietri ceramics, 18th-century Italian antiques, brass accessories and Frette linens. This is a far cry from the bohemian chic style that’s sweeping the world. Everywhere you look, you’ll see marble, refined fabrics and antiques. The lawns are immaculate and full of flowers, everything perfectly in place.
The 20-metre-long heated outdoor pool overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. I can’t imagine a place more conducive to daydreaming, stretched out on the deckchairs contemplating this cinematic panorama.
The hotel has 33 double rooms with sea and/or mountain views. There are 10 Junior and Deluxe suites with sea views, some with terraces. Although the rooms at Palazzo Avino are not very large, they are extremely comfortable. We loved our bed, which was as snug as a bug in a rug! The style of the room is very traditional, as is the rest of the hotel.
To be honest, it was really the view that mesmerized me more than the interior of the rooms. Despite the clouds, we couldn’t help but spend long minutes gazing at it as soon as we got out of bed, despite the hunger in our stomachs!
I enjoyed the small spa at Palazzo Avino. After changing in the changing room, I slipped into a bathrobe as pink as the outside of the building. The spa is located next to the pool in the gardens, overlooking the sea. I thought it was wonderful to have a spa with such a view of the Mediterranean! It features a hydromassage pool, sauna, Turkish steam bath and treatment rooms.
The gym is outside under white gazebos in the gardens. Guests can enjoy the same spectacular views of the Mediterranean while exercising on Technogym equipment.
And don’t miss the hotel’s rooftop solarium. There’s also an outdoor Jacuzzi, so you can relax and feel like the king or queen of the world. The icing on the cake: I was alone.
Palazzo Avino has an additional pool in its beach club, Clubhouse by the Sea. The beachhouse is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Shuttles take guests there free of charge from 9:30 a.m., but we didn’t have the opportunity to go as we were there out of season.
Last but not least, the hotel attracts gourmets with its 1 Michelin star Rosselinis restaurant. The restaurant serves dinner al fresco on the terrace.
We weren’t able to dine there either (being accompanied by our children), but we were able to enjoy the same terrace for breakfast.
Breakfast is buffet style, with the option of ordering à la carte. The buffet offered a selection of local cheeses and hams, pastries, cakes, grilled vegetables, yoghurts, cereals and fruit. A real feast with top-quality products. I think I also had the best cappuccino of my stay in Italy…
In conclusion, we loved the enchanting atmosphere of Palazzo Avino and its timeless style. Its beautifully manicured gardens and spectacular views are well worth the trip.
Our feeling
The Palazzo Avino plunges you into a daydream… It’s certainly one of the most beautifully located hotels in the world! Add to this a Michelin-starred restaurant and a small, intimate spa, and you’re guaranteed a successful stay.
