A nature reserve nestled between rice paddies and sand dunes, Comporta is a well-known address for lovers of discreet, authentic luxury. It’s the jewel in the crown of the Alentejo region, inviting you to reconnect with the slow pace of life. In this natural environment, the boutique hotel Quinta da Comporta has become the trendy address of the moment. From traditional architectural lines to contemporary details, Quinta da Comporta takes you on an inner journey thanks to its deep connection with the environment. Luxury, calm and contemplation, here you are! Pascal Languillon, director of Luxe Wellness Club, tested the hotel during a short family stay.
The favorite address of chic Robinsons
Quinta da Comporta is located 1h15 from Lisbon international airport, on the pristine beaches of this pretty corner of the Atlantic. Comporta is renowned for being a quiet, unspoilt village where time seems to stand still and nature is always celebrated. This hotel becomes the second luxury hotel to open its doors in this most sought-after location on the Portuguese coast, after the Sublime Comporta.
From private villas with pools to one- and two-bedroom homes and suites, the complex has been designed to open up each living space to the outdoors and its surrounding nature. The use of neutral tones and reused materials characteristic of the region has been particularly important in giving the hotel a timeless, soothing “home from home” feel.
Miguel Câncio Martins, the hotel’s architect and best known for the Buddha Bar in Paris, has been vacationing in Comporta for over 40 years. This project is a dream for him, and he was keen to perpetuate Comporta’s authenticity, natural landscapes and surrounding ecosystems by integrating traditional architecture, the local community and the unique character of the place into his thinking. It’s an act of love. And it shows!
We went to the beach, which is just a few minutes away by car or bike, and there, surprise: miles of pristine beaches with nothing and no one. But we were there at the end of October during the school vacations. Open your lungs wide and let the sea air heal you from the inside out!
The rooms: a real charm!
Townhouses are 113 m2 in size and can accommodate up to 4 people with two bedrooms. In a harmonious, sober style that highlights light and raw materials, these villas are built in rows to create a safe, gentle, village-like environment. We loved the bohemian chic style of the room!
The icing on the cake: not only is the bed beautiful to look at, it’s so comfortable you’ll want to pack it in your suitcase when you leave.
The bathrooms feature two basins, a bath and a separate shower. Here again, rustic chic is the order of the day. Lots of taste, lots of charm!
A spa where time stretches out
If the promise at Quinta da Comporta is authenticity and reconnection with the self, Oryza Spa encourages you to take a spiritual journey. Choose from delicious scrubs and massages, aroma-based rituals to discover a new sense of harmony, or oriental therapies to reactivate your energies.
The materials and perspectives are designed to accompany this inner journey. You gaze at the rice paddies or the horizon. After a session in the sauna, take a dip in the indoor pool before heading outside and diving underwater… A spa where you simply feel good.
Healthy, seasonal cooking
Orchestrated by chef João Sousa, the cuisine is also inspired by Comporta’s art of living: observing the passing of time with serenity and sharing. Most of the produce comes from the hotel’s own vegetable garden, so of course it’s all organic.
Each season brings its own flavors, and the chef brings out the best in the produce for a sensory journey into the region’s culinary traditions. At Mar D’Arrozal, the hotel’s restaurant, each dish pays homage to a local ingredient. We found this restaurant to be very good indeed. We enjoyed every dish we tasted, without exception.
We appreciated the choice of healthy dishes: very successful poke bowls, fish, salads… Vegetarian friends, you’ll be warmly welcomed here.
Special mention should also go to the breakfasts, which feature top-quality products. Detox juices, chia pudding, goji berries… We’ve fallen for the whole range of wellness-style breakfasts. I did, however, allow myself a little local eccentricity: a pasteis de nata, the sin mignon of any stay in Portugal.
The restaurant’s design is just splendid, day or night. I also really liked the staff, who were very pleasant and friendly. Some waiters speak French.
Our feeling
With its simply exquisite bohemian chic design, Quinta Da Comporta is a perfect hotel for Instagram and fashion magazines alike. As well as being visually stunning, we were also charmed by the delicious, reasonably priced restaurant, and the well-equipped spa. An ideal stopover for a weekend or extended stay, easily accessible from major European cities.
